Forecast Says?
It’s always hard for me to figure out what to wear for each season. But this time of year, New England weather seems to change every 15 minutes (sometimes to extremes) and often wardrobe changes are required. So I’m either unprepared and soaked because I didn’t interpret that 10% chance of rain as a thunderous downpour… or I’m this person:
But what would be really useful is a weather app that simply gave me the forecast in clothing.
I discovered a few things when it came to weather. First, in the winter, I made decision based on the actual temp and not what “felt right” since I knew that 10 minutes into a ride, I feel differently. So, for certain temp ranges, I had created a list.
As for rain, if it’s warm then I just get wet. I do not mind the water of the rain; it’s the cold. In the summer, I just embrace it
Your weather sounds like Portland, Oregon’s! This is the time of year when I’m most at risk of being caught unprepared. It’s hard to imagine rain and wind when it sunny and gorgeous at the time you leave your front door. I’ve learned to ignore what I see outside my windows and prepare for the worst. Our weather forecasting is of no help at all…
I basically always carry a poncho in my bag for this exact reason – that way I can just wear whatever I want, and if it starts raining really hard, I can still get wherever I’m going, and be about 95% dry afterwards. So far it’s worked out really well.
a least, on this day, the wind and rain are at your back! 😉
At least when the temperature is below 10C, undergarments in merino wool is a failsafe option. You will still get wet, but you will stay warm 🙂 Above 10 c it might get a bit too hot if you like to go fast, although I keep on using my homemade kneewarmers up to 15 C.
